Three people were killed after a medical transport helicopter crashed in a wooded area of Mississippi Monday afternoon.
The Eurocopter EC-135, owned and operated by Med-Trans, crashed at around 1:15 p.m. in Madison County, the Federal Aviation Authority said.
The University of Mississippi Medical Center said that no patients were on board identifying the victims as the pilot and two crew members.
“Earlier this afternoon, AirCare 3, our Columbus-based medical transport helicopter, had an accident in rural Madison County, north of the Reservoir,” the UMMC said.
“Sadly, there were no survivors.”
The National Transportation Safety Board said it was “launching a go-team to investigate” on Tuesday.
“It’s a tragic reminder of the risks Mississippi’s first responders take every day to keep us safe,” said Gov. Tate Reeves.
“Our state will never forget the sacrifice of these heroes.”
