A visit to a hospital led to an Indiana couple’s arrest after doctors noticed that their 10-year-old boy was “extremely skinny” and showed signs of child abuse.

Adam and Melody Greenwood, ages 36 and 38 respectively, brought their son to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital for an exam on Feb. 24, leading medical staff to call the Indiana Department of Child Services.

The malnourished boy had scars and marks on his wrists consistent with being restrained. He later confirmed to investigators that his mother had zip-tied him and forced him to stand in a corner for long hours.

He was also prohibited from eating snacks and junk food or watching TV or playing games with his siblings.
