New York City news, New York news.

The search for a missing fisherman has been suspended Monday evening hours after he vanished when a 30-foot Grady White boat capsized in New York Harbor killing three passengers and wounding two others.

The U.S. Coast Guard said that the search for 52-year-old Vernon Glasford was suspended at around 6 p.m. Monday.

The boat capsized Sunday as it returned from a fishing trip. Crews combed 842 square miles of harbor and coastline for the missing fisherman in roughly 30 hours.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Vernon Glasford,” said commander of the Coast Guard Sector New York Capt. Jonathan Andrechik.

“The decision to suspend a search is always difficult. Though our active search has ended, our support and sympathy remain with all those impacted by this tragic incident.”

Family members described Glasford as a “hardworking father” of three children who went fishing with friends and colleagues.

“It’s a shock. We don’t know what to think. We just know that he’s missing,” cousin David Glasford said.
