Shooting at Albuquerque Air Force base leaves airman dead; another injured

An airman was killed and another wounded after a shooting at an Air Force Base in Albuquerque, authorities said Saturday.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. near the Truman Gate entrance to the Kirtland Air Force Base.

The Air Force said the incident “led to an off-base pursuit that resulted in an Airman being injured and another killed.”

  • Officials said the injured airman was struck in the hand and is expected to survive. He was taken to the UNM Medical Center for treatment.

    The incident is being investigated by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, the FBI, and the Albuquerque Police Department.

    “To protect the integrity of the open investigation, we cannot provide additional details at this time,” the Air Force added.
