A Connecticut inmate known in his community as the “Bridgeport Cannibal Killer” has been granted a conditional release sparking outrage among Republican lawmakers.

Tyree Smith was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 2013 in connection to the murder of Angel Gonzalez.

The victim was hacked to death in a vacant apartment. Smith’s cousin testified that the killer confessed to eating Gonzalez’s eyeball and part of his brain.
