A Kentucky child acting in self-defense fatally shot two intruders after they broke into a Clay County home to steal firearms from a safe early Saturday.
The home invasion occurred at around 4:20 a.m. when officers responded to the residence and located two mortally wounded men.
Kentucky State Police determined the two men broke into the home to steal firearms from a safe but were spotted by a child living in the home.
The child noticed that the two intruders were armed and acted in self-defense retrieving a gun and shooting both of them. Police said the child then fled through a bedroom window.
The two suspects were identified as 44-year-old Roger D. Smith and 51-year-old Jeffrey M. Allen. The former died en route to a hospital while Allen died at the scene.
