California man, 20, found dead near car parts 1000 feet below rim in Grand Canyon National Park

A 20-year-old California man was found dead 1000 feet below the Grand Canyon’s South rim on Feb. 10.

Authorities said the victim, who has yet to be identified, was found along with scattered car parts near the Yavapai Geology Museum, the National Park Service spokesperson said.

Crews responded to reports of a broken rock wall east of the museum at around 8 a.m. and conducted an aerial search of the scene before locating the deceased man.

    “Trail crew from the Facilities Maintenance Division will be repairing the damaged rock wall near the Yavapai Geology Museum in the coming days,” park officials announced.

    Each season, there are between 10 and 15 fatalities reported at the park, officials said.
