1 dead, 2 hurt in fire at Texas boarding house for people with disabilities

A deadly fire at a Mission Bend, Texas house claimed the life of a resident and hurt two others early Thursday morning, the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office said.

Firefighters responded to the home in Sierra Valle near Bellaire Boulevard near the West Park Tollway and Highway 6 just after 3 a.m.

Once at the scene, crews encountered heavy flames emanating from the back of the residence, with witnesses informing them that a resident remained inside.

  • “When they first arrived on scene, they witnessed heavy fire. Witnesses were out on the lawn and told us someone was missing,” an official said.

    The missing person was found dead inside the home. Two other victims were treated for minor burns to their hands and smoke inhalations.

    Authorities said the home is a county-registered boarding house for people with disabilities.

    The HCFMO is investigating the cause of the fire.
