A massive fire broke out at an Abington Township, Pennsylvania aerospace manufacturer prompting a shelter-in-place late Monday.
Around 70 fire companies responded to SPS Technologies on Highland Avenue at around 9:30 p.m. Monday, Abington Township Police Chief Patrick Molloy said.
Molloy said that nearly 60 employees were able to evacuate the facility that manufactures aerospace fasteners and fittings.
Firefighters were still battling the flames by 7 a.m. Tuesday. A shelter-in-place order issued for residents in a 1-mile radius area around the facility remained effective into the morning hours.
“Please keep all of our brave first responders as well as any employees that were in the building in your thoughts and prayers and please avoid the area!!!” said Jeffrey Browne, the Ward 6 Commissioner of Abington Township.
