Santa Clarita news, California news.

A California Institute of the Arts student was killed at her off-campus apartment earlier this month and authorities are seeking the public’s help as they search for a suspect.

Menghan Zhuang, 23, was found dead with multiple injuries to her upper body on the evening of Feb. 4 by her roommate who is not a suspect in the case.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Michael Modica said Zhuang was with a “male companion” of Asian descent the night of Feb. 3.

“It is clear this was not a random act of violence and Zhuang somehow knew the person of interest, evident by bringing that person into her apartment,” Modica said Thursday.

The victim was a senior undergraduate at CalArts where she studied art.

“Our community is devastated by this loss, and our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, classmates, and teachers,” college officials said.
