NY firefighter dies in line of duty after wall collapses on him while battling flames

A New York firefighter died in the line of duty Wednesday night after a wall collapsed on him as he battled a blaze.

John R. Gaudet suffered fatal injuries from the collapse and was taken to Wilson Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“This is an unspeakable tragedy, and our hearts are broken for the firefighter’s family,” Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham said.

    Two other firefighters were injured in the incident. They were released from the hospital in good condition.

    Gaudet served 11 years with the Binghamton Fire Department.

    “Tonight, the City of Binghamton mourns a fallen hero who made the ultimate sacrifice. We pray for a speedy recovery for the two injured firefighters and carry the entire department in our hearts.”
