A Maryland firefighter suffered a fatal medical episode while responding to a house fire in Silver Spring, authorities said.
Master Firefighter Chris Higgins was in response to a blaze late Saturday, throwing ladders to the home when he collapsed.

Fellow firefighters and paramedics tended to the 23-year veteran firefighter at the scene but he died at a local hospital.
Higgins, who leaves behind a wife and two children, was remembered as a “respected and dedicated” member of the firehouse.
“Known for his exceptional skills, mentorship, and unwavering commitment, he was more than a firefighter – he was a friend and role model to many,” the Montgomery County Fire Rescue said.
