Authorities in Sarasota, Florida are actively looking for a suspected hit-and-run driver who took off after hitting, killing two children and wounding their mother Monday night.
The crash took place at around 8:30 p.m. in the area of N. Washington Boulevard and 7th Street, police said.
A mother and her two children, a 2-year-old and a 5-month-old, were struck. They were taken to a hospital in critical condition.
“It was just very, very bad. I just stayed there and prayed for them. It was terrible and very sad,” a witness recalled.
The two children succumbed to their injuries. Their mother remains hospitalized.
Police are now looking for a 2013-18 Lexus ES300 with damage to the front end and windshield.
“For someone to take off after they hit and knew, I don’t see how they could do something like that, especially when it comes to children,” the witness added.
