Four people are dead and seven others wounded after a car trying to pass another vehicle on a central Washington highway collided head-on with a charter bus.
The collision took place on Highway 28 near Wenatchee Sunday afternoon when a Toyota Camry traveling west struck an oncoming Northwestern State Lines charter bus.
The bus driver, a 66-year-old Spokane man, and two occupants of the Toyota, both 17-year-olds, were killed. A fourth fatality was later confirmed after a bus passenger succumbed at a hospital.
Seven other victims, aged from 24 to 71, suffered injuries and were taken to hospitals.
The owner of the bus company, Jacob Price, said about 20 people were on the bus on a scheduled route from Seattle to Spokane.
He blamed the collision on the teen driver who tried to pass another car at an “excessive speed” but said the investigation remains active.
“Sadly, our talented and dedicated driver was among the fatalities,” he said.
