The driver of a tug vehicle was hospitalized Saturday evening after an airplane wing struck his vehicle at O’Hare International Airport, officials said.
It occurred at around 6:35 p.m. when the United Airlines tug vehicle was struck by the wing of Air Wisconsin Flight 6181 as it approached a gate.
The impact sent the tug vehicle flipping over, pinning the 64-year-old driver underneath.
The man suffered injuries to his head and lower body and was rushed in critical condition to Lutheran General Hospital, Chicago Police said. The passengers of the aircraft were not harmed.
“On Saturday evening, a United tug at O’Hare made contact with another airline’s aircraft while it was taxiing,” UA said in a statement.
“The United employee was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, and we are ensuring he receives any necessary support and care.”
The incident did not impact airport operations. The investigation is ongoing.
