TikTok went dark for 170 million Americans on Sunday after the Supreme Court allowed a ban that shattered countless influencers’ hearts and livelihoods.
President-elect Donald Trump said Saturday that he will “most likely” delay the ban for 90 days after his Monday return to the White House but couldn’t make an evident decision.
Users took to social media platforms Sunday to express their devastation with some suggesting they already experience “withdrawal” symptoms.
“I can’t sleep, I’m so freaked out about this,” a tearful Alix Earle said after losing her 7.2 million TikTok followers.
“I’m just so sad, just thinking like all of the memories just going away.”
Former banker Danielle Pheloung wondered if she had to call her old employer after losing her full-time content creation job on TikTok.
Kylie Park lamented her makeup influencer career and her nearly one million followers.
“Let me tell you right now, social media, TikTok, content creation is a real full-time job,” she said through tears.
TikTok sensation Madilynn Cameron hoped President-elect Donald Trump would intervene, echoing content creator Kelsey Pumel that the government “failed” TikTokers.
“I just still can’t get over the fact that the government literally cares more about an app that hasn’t proven to pose any of the threats that our country claims it does over kids literally being [killed] at school, the healthcare epidemic, not being able to afford housing, the homeless population.”
