More than 170 million Americans are bracing for a looming TikTok shutdown following a Supreme Court decision to uphold the app's ban Starting Sunday.

The popular video platform said that unless President Joe Biden’s administration intervenes to protect it from any form of punishment for violating the terms of the upcoming ban, TikTok will be forced to turn off its services on Sunday.

“Unless the Biden Administration immediately provides a definitive statement to satisfy the most critical service providers assuring non-enforcement, unfortunately, TikTok will be forced to go dark on Jan. 19.”

On Friday, the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the federal ban on TikTok unless it’s sold by its Chinese parent company to an owner that is not controlled by a foreign adversary.

“The statements issued today by both the Biden White House and the Department of Justice have failed to provide the necessary clarity and assurance to the service providers that are integral to maintaining TikTok’s availability to over 170 million Americans.”

President-elect Donald Trump previously asked the Supreme Court to stay on the ban suggesting that his administration would not enforce it and rather would try to work out a deal.
