A shooting at a large bonfire event in Dubberly, Louisiana has left six people wounded Saturday, police said.
Webster Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene just before midnight when gunfire erupted at the “unpermitted” gathering.
“When deputies arrived, they learned most of those who had been shot had already been removed from the scene by private individuals,” police said.
“And, the sheriff said, the party was still in progress despite the gunshots.”
Two of the six victims were in critical condition. The sheriff’s office said the event had a DJ and free food and drinks with a large crowd of attendees blocking traffic.
“We want to maintain order in the parish, and we have ordinances in place to help prevent these things from happening,” said Sheriff Jason Parker.
“We don’t know the reasons for the shootings yet, but this is what can happen when you have a combination of large uncontrolled crowds, music, and alcohol plus little or no security.”
