A New Jersey man was arrested in Mexico after the decomposing remains of his girlfriend were discovered inside a refrigerator abandoned in a state park last month.

Christopher Blevins, 45, turned himself in to Mexican authorities last August after admitting he may have killed someone during a “bar fight.”

On Dec. 22, his 50-year-old girlfriend’s body was found decomposing inside a refrigerator that was abandoned in Belleplain State Forest.

The victim was later identified as Laura Hughes, a mother of two daughters. She and Blevins reportedly had a history of “domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse.”

The same straps were found in Blevins’ apartment along with a gun and other evidence. A license plate reader caught Blevins’ truck transporting a “refrigerator-shaped object” to the state park, days before he crossed to Mexico in the same truck.

Investigators believe Hughes was killed in late July. Blevins is currently facing one count of desecration of human remains and one count of hindering apprehension.
