NJ man stabs fiancée to death day after proposing on Facebook video: ‘An act of evil’

A New Jersey man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his fiancée to death the day after he shared a Facebook video of him proposing to her.

Police responded to “a residence on Florida Street in response to a report of a stabbing” in the morning of Dec. 30.

“Upon their arrival, they located Naket Jadix Trinidad Maldonado, age 31 of Elizabeth, who was found dead at the scene,” the Union County Prosecutor’s Office said.

  • Jose Melo, 52, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to Maldonado’s death.

    Melo had on Dec. 29 posted a video on Facebook showing him proposing to Maldonado in a bar.

    “This horrible act by someone she trusted left her two children without either parent and with very little options for their future,” the victim’s aunt said describing the murder as “an act of evil.”

    “I am also doing all I can to ensure her young daughters are safe and have the things they need.”
