A postal worker was stabbed to death while on the job in a New York City deli late Thursday, authorities said.
The victim, a letter carrier assigned to Manhattan, was stabbed multiple times at a business on Harlem’s Lenox Avenue at around 2:30 p.m.
First responders rushed the victim to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
He was later identified as 36-year-old Ray Hodges of the Bronx.
Police arrested Jaia Cruz, 24, on murder charges in connection to the fatal stabbing.
A witness said Cruz and Hodges began disputing when he ordered a sandwich over who was first in line to order.
The suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed Hodges in the stomach.
Local activist Dr. Iesha Sekou was at the hospital to comfort Hodges’ mother.
“A mother never, never expects to bury her child. She’s still in a little shock. She just said, I didn’t believe that my son would be dead. And I don’t think any mother is ready for this.”
