An immigration agent was stabbed and beaten to death at a checkpoint near the US southern border Monday afternoon.
Luis Alberto Olivas Garcia was attacked at Mexico’s Samalayuca checkpoint by three migrants after he asked for their identification documents.
Emergency crews found Garcia deceased with “signs of violence” on his body at the checkpoint, across the border from El Paso.

Two Venezuelans and a Colombian were arrested in connection to Garcia’s killing.
Garcia had just received an award for his three decades of service as a federal agent with the National Immigration Institute.
"Rest in peace Luis Olivas, my condolences to his family and coworkers," a friend wrote on social media.
