NYC mother arrested for leaving newborn outside imam’s Bronx home

A New York City woman has been charged after she allegedly abandoned her newborn daughter on the doorstep of a Bronx imam last weekend.

Police said Delfina Galvez lives near Mamadou Hafiz Jallow’s home and was caught on surveillance footage walking down the street to his home, carrying a green tote.

Jallow returned home from his mosque to find the baby girl wrapped in blankets inside the tote bag on his doorstep.

  • “When I opened the blanket, I see a little baby, blinking their eyes and shaking their fingers. Very cold,” he described.

    The imam brought the baby inside his home and called 911. The child was then taken to a hospital and is expected to be OK.

    Galvez was charged with reckless endangerment and abandonment of a child.
