A Marietta, Georgia teen was arrested over the weekend after she was caught digging a hole in her backyard to bury her deceased newborn.
Officers responded to the scene at around 3 p.m. Sunday after receiving a call from the 17-year-old mother’s uncle.
After conducting several interviews and collecting evidence from the scene, Leticia Rodriguez was arrested and brought to a hospital for treatment.
A deceased newborn was found in the home, and investigators determined the mother had just given birth to the boy six hours earlier.
“We did discover the mother of the deceased infant digging a hole in the backyard in an attempt to create that situation,” Marietta Police Public Information Officer Chuck McPhilamy said. “The infant was never actually buried.”
“The medical examiner has the deceased infant, and it will be up to them to determine was this infant born alive or not, was the infant viable or not, what is the exact age and what is the cause of death.”
