Twin Falls news, Idaho news.

An Idaho teen was arrested weeks after a deceased newborn was found inside a Safe Haven baby box, police said.

The infant girl was dead when left inside a Safe Haven Baby Box at Grove Creek Medical Center in Blackfoot on Oct. 13.

The newborn was wrapped in a blanket and had the placenta still attached to her.

  • Police arrested 18-year-old Angel N. Newberry in connection to the incident, a Friday news release announced.

Newberry stands accused of a failing to report the infant’s death to law enforcement and the coroner, and further charges are pending.

It remains unclear how investigators linked the baby to Newberry. The mother was booked at the Bingham County Jail.

While a Safe Haven Baby Box allows parents to surrender newborns anonymously and without questions within their 30 first days, it doesn’t protect the parents if the placed baby is harmed or dead.
