A deceased baby was found in a safe haven box, authorities in Blackfoot, Idaho said.

The newborn girl was found on October 13 by officers responding to the Grove Creek Medical Center.

In a statement, Safe Haven Baby Boxes’ Founder Monica Kelsey said medical staff responded within a minute after the baby was left in the box.

    She added that it was evident the baby was dead long before it was left in the safe haven box.

    The girl’s family has been located and her body was turned over to them.

    “Let this be clear: This is an illegal, deadly abandonment. Anonymity is only allowed when an infant is safely surrendered completely unharmed,” Kelsey said.
