A man was crushed to death after a tragic accident on Christmas Day at a New York City subway station, police said.
The victim, a 49-year-old man, was lighting a cigarette on the gangway between two cars of a moving northbound No. 6 train at around 10 p.m.
He tumbled on the tracks and fell in the tunnel underneath Lexington Avenue between the 68th St-Hunter College and 77th St. stations.

The man was crushed to death by the moving train. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His identity was not immediately released.
The incident delayed subway service as police worked the scene.
