A young Arizona ironworker fell six stories to his death Monday at a Glendale construction site, his family said.
22-year-old Tyrone Wilson fell to his death at around 3 a.m. at VAI Resort where he was hired as an ironworker, rodbuster, and carpenter.
“That was the beginning of his shift. That’s when he starts,” Wilson’s mother Latoya Cheney said.
“He chose the hardest job and he wanted to be an ironworker, then he wanted to be a journeyman. He wanted to show us how strong and how proud he was to be an ironworker and to work that hard, tough job.”
The Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the incident and whether there were any safety standards violations at the worksite.
“Words can’t describe how I feel right now. I still think he’s at work, but knowing that he’s gone…It’s really tearing me apart and it’s tearing his siblings apart, his dad.”
