Suspect at large in Seattle after stabbing public bus driver to death: ‘We are all in shock’

Authorities in Seattle are looking for a suspect accused of fatally stabbing a public bus driver early Wednesday morning.

59-year-old Shawn Yim, a King County Metro Coach driver, was repeatedly stabbed in the chest by a passenger during a physical altercation at around 3 a.m., police said.

The victim walked a few steps away from the bus before collapsing in the area of the campus of the University of Washington. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police on Thursday identified the suspect as Richard Sitzlack, 53. They said he frequents the University of Washington district and downtown Seattle.

    “We are not going to sit idly by while our members are murdered,” said Greg Woodfill, the president of the Amalgamated Transit Union.

    “I don’t have all the answers, but I do know we need more secure areas for the transit operators, and we need more dedicated Metro transit police officers.”

    “We need to take action now. We are all in shock.”
