A San Jose boy was fatally struck by a car last week after he ran off his family home into the freeway, authorities said.
King Holguin, 6, was two weeks shy of his seventh birthday when he managed to remove the child safety locks at his home and ran off last Friday.
“He got out in the middle of the night when everyone was asleep – locked the door behind him, left his iPad,” King’s caregiver said.
The boy had autism and was nonverbal. His caregiver said he had a penchant for running off especially when it rained.
King was struck by a 2024 Nissan Altima on Interstate 280, not far from his apartment. His death was ruled an accident.
“King was very outgoing, energetic, adventurous, stubborn, loving boy who loved to play and run around all the time. He had tons of energy,” a fundraiser for the family read.
