A California woman was fatally shot while sleeping in her bedroom after her 2-year-old son found a loaded gun and accidentally fired a round, police in Fresno said.
22-year-old Jessinya Mina was gunned down by her toddler at the Butterfly Grove apartment complex just before 5:30 p.m.
Officers found her suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body. She later succumbed to her wounds at the Community Regional Medical Center.
Mina’s boyfriend was arrested for negligent firearm storage and felony child endangerment.
“It’s difficult to comprehend that a two-and-a-half-year-old could have the strength to manipulate a firearm,” Lt. Paul Cervantes said.
Mina’s sister blamed the boyfriend for her death revealing that he continuously ignored her requests not to bring a gun to the apartment.
“Now because of her boyfriend’s carelessness, his arrogance, his irresponsibility, and neglecting my sister’s wishes of never having a gun in her house, she’s gone forever. My sister didn’t deserve that.”
