Toddler, 2, fatally shoots sleeping mom after finding loaded gun in bedroom

A California woman was fatally shot while sleeping in her bedroom after her 2-year-old son found a loaded gun and accidentally fired a round, police in Fresno said.

22-year-old Jessinya Mina was gunned down by her toddler at the Butterfly Grove apartment complex just before 5:30 p.m.

Officers found her suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body. She later succumbed to her wounds at the Community Regional Medical Center.

    “It’s difficult to comprehend that a two-and-a-half-year-old could have the strength to manipulate a firearm,” Lt. Paul Cervantes said.

    Mina’s sister blamed the boyfriend for her death revealing that he continuously ignored her requests not to bring a gun to the apartment.

    “Now because of her boyfriend’s carelessness, his arrogance, his irresponsibility, and neglecting my sister’s wishes of never having a gun in her house, she’s gone forever. My sister didn’t deserve that.”
