California boy, 7, fatally shoots toddler brother after finding unsecured gun in car’s glovebox

Authorities in Rancho Cucamonga, California said that a 2-year-old boy was fatally shot by his older brother who found a loaded, unsecured gun in their mother’s car.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s detectives said the 7-year-old boy shot his toddler brother while their mother unloaded some items from the car outside a Rancho Cucamonga shopping complex.

The tragic “accident” occurred at around 4 p.m. Monday outside the Floor and Décor store.

  • “The 2-year-old was sitting in the cab of the truck along with his 7-year-old brother,” the department said.

    “The 7-year-old brother found a firearm in the glovebox and as a result of that find the fatal shooting occurred.”

    The incident remains under investigation. The District Attorney’s Office will determine if charges will be filed.
