Los Angeles news, California news.

At least 80 people were left sickened with norovirus linked to raw oysters served at a Los Angeles event earlier this month.

The LA County’s Department of Public Health said the outbreak stemmed from a Dec. 3 event celebrating the LA Times’ list of the 101 best restaurants at The Hollywood Palladium.

“At this time, over 80 attendees that consumed the oysters have reported illness,” a spokesperson for the agency said.

The very contagious virus is also known as the “stomach flu” or the “stomach bug” and causes vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, and headache.

Health officials recalled Fanny Bay Select oysters and Fanny Bay XS oysters from the Pacific Northwest Shellfish Co.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning to restaurants across 15 states not to serve or consume the oysters in question over fears of a potential contamination.
