Two workers were injured early Monday in an explosion at a northeast Illinois paint production plant, officials said.
The blast likely occurred when a paint can exploded at around 8:30 a.m. at the Seymour Paint factory in Sycamore, roughly 60 miles west of Chicago.
The building’s water and foam fire suppression system helped contain the blaze before firefighters arrived.
Two workers were hospitalized with “severe burns” and are listed in stable condition as of Tuesday, Fire Chief Bart Gilmore said.
“Luckily, we had a fast response time, and the fire was able to be suppressed before any real significant damage, and this became a much larger incident,” Gilmore added.
The explosion remains under investigation.
