Six people were injured, including three in critical condition, after a massive home explosion in Missouri, authorities said Saturday.
The blast occurred at around 2:45 a.m. on St. Louis Road in Jefferson City and leveled the residence almost completely.
Responders had a hard time trying to reach the six victims who were scattered among the debris. Three of them were said to be in critical condition.
“Rescue operations were particularly challenging due to the extensive structural collapse and significant debris,” the city’s Fire Department said.
“The team had to carefully tunnel through layers of debris to reach the final occupant, who required intensive extrication.”
The six occupants and their two pets were all rescued by 5:52 a.m., the department said. The cause of the explosion remains unknown.
