A mass shooting at a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin has claimed the lives of three people including the gunman, and left six others with injuries just days ahead of Christmas vacation.
Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow, 15, took her own life after fatally shooting a teacher and a student and injured six people in a study hall at Abundant Life Christian School just before 11 a.m. Monday.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said that Rupnow’s motive remains unclear. The teen “had been dealing with problems and expressed some of those in writings, which they are now reviewing.”
“Today is a sad, sad day. Not just for Madison but for our entire country,” Barnes said.
Officers recovered a 9mm pistol from the scene. Barnes the suspect’s father is currently being questioned and is cooperating with detectives.
“The parents are fully cooperating, we have no reason to believe that they have committed a crime at this time,” Barnes said.
“[The suspect’s father] lost someone as well. And so we’re not going to rush the information. We’ll take our time and certainly do our due diligence.”
