A Tesla driver hit and killed a father and son on a Phoenix-area freeway where they stopped to refuel their truck late Friday.
The crash occurred on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway near Elliot Road at around 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The victims had pulled their Chevrolet truck over to the shoulder of the freeway after the vehicle ran out of gas.
Official Bart Graves said they were in the process of putting fuel into the truck using a gas can when a woman slammed her Tesla into them.
The pair died at the scene. Authorities said the father was a septuagenarian and his son was in his 40s.
Graves said the driver was not impaired at the time of the crash, which shut down the off-ramp at Elliot Road for several hours.
