Tesla driver crashes into father, son refueling truck on Arizona freeway killing them

A Tesla driver hit and killed a father and son on a Phoenix-area freeway where they stopped to refuel their truck late Friday.

The crash occurred on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway near Elliot Road at around 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The victims had pulled their Chevrolet truck over to the shoulder of the freeway after the vehicle ran out of gas.

  • Official Bart Graves said they were in the process of putting fuel into the truck using a gas can when a woman slammed her Tesla into them.

    The pair died at the scene. Authorities said the father was a septuagenarian and his son was in his 40s.

    Graves said the driver was not impaired at the time of the crash, which shut down the off-ramp at Elliot Road for several hours.
