8-year-old boy dead after statue fell over, struck him outside Arizona resort

An 8-year-old boy was killed in a freak accident at an upscale Phoenix resort last week, authorities said.

The child was reportedly injured when a statue fell over and struck him outside the Arizona Biltmore resort at around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition. He died on Thanksgiving Day, police said.

    “Our top priority is the safety of our guests, and our thoughts are with the family impacted by today’s events,” the Arizona Biltmore said in a statement.

    The statue that collapsed was one of the 19 “solemn sprite” statues designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright and artist Alfonso Ianelli in 1914 and gifted to the resort in 1985.
