Connecticut high school football player, 14, dies after collapsing during warm-up practice

A 14-year-old Connecticut high school athlete is dead after collapsing during practice Wednesday, authorities said.

Pop Warner football player Jahkye Gayle collapsed during a non-contact warm-up drill, the Bloomfield Junior Warhawks Football team President Trevor Ford said.

“It was just like a walk through, essentially just like light jogging. Nothing strenuous or anything like that,” Ford said.

    “Jahkye was a vibrant, talented, and beloved son, friend, and teammate whose light touched everyone around him,” a fundraising page for the family reads.

    “He was a proud member of the Bloomfield Jr. Warhawks where his dedication, sportsmanship, and love for football inspired his teammates and coaches alike.”
