New York City news, New York news.

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was assassinated on Wednesday ahead of an investor conference in Manhattan.

The 50-year-old was shot to the chest and leg at point-blank range as he exited the Hilton Hotel by a gunman who appeared to know the door his target was going to emerge from.

The assassin, described as a white male wearing a cream-colored jacket and a black face mask, took off on a bicycle toward Central Park.

A reward of $10,000 is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest.

Thompson was named UnitedHealthcare CEO in 2021 after running the Medicare business for several years.

At the time of his death, Thompson was facing a DoJ probe and several complaints of insider trading and fraud.

“This is a shocking and devastating loss for our whole community. ‘Shocking’ is the only word I can find at the moment,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said.
