A dangerous convicted murderer remains at large in California for the second day after he managed to escape custody on his way to a court appearance Monday.
Cesar M. Hernandez, 34, jumped out of the police van after arriving at the courthouse in Delano.
“Upon arrival, Hernandez evaded staff custody, jumped out of the van, and is currently at large,” the corrections department said.
Authorities described the fugitive as 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing around 161 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. He was wearing an orange prison jumpsuit and white thermals.
“Agents and our law enforcement partners continue to actively search and gather intelligence as they investigate this case,” the agency’s spokesperson said.
Hernandez was sentenced to 25 years with the possibility of parole after a first-degree murder conviction.
