Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum insisted that her country will “not close borders” hours after Donald Trump’s assertion that he secured the “immediate” end of migrants crossing.
Trump announced on Truth Social that he and Sheinbaum had a “wonderful” conversation that ended with a decision of “effectively closing our Southern Border.”
“She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border,” Trump posted.
“We also talked about what can be done to stop the massive drug inflow into the United States, and also, U.S. consumption of these drugs. It was a very productive conversation!”
The new President of Mexico agreed that the two leaders had an “excellent conversation” but denied his claim that she accepted to close the border.
“In our conversation with President Trump, I explained to him the comprehensive strategy that Mexico has followed to address the migration phenomenon, respecting human rights,” Sheinbaum said, hours later.
“Thanks to this, migrants and caravans are assisted before they reach the border,”
“We reiterate that Mexico’s position is not to close borders, but to build bridges between governments and between peoples.”
