Suspect in fatal shooting of Connecticut woman, infant arrested in Puerto Rico

Authorities in Connecticut announced Saturday the arrest of the suspect who fatally shot a woman and her infant in Hartford earlier this week.

Lance “Macho” Morales, 23, was arrested at a home in the barrio of Fajardo, Puerto Rico in connection to the murders of Jessiah Mercado and her infant son.

  • Morales allegedly pulled up alongside the victims’ car Tuesday and started firing, killing the mother and son and injuring a man.

    Detectives believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute over a car. They identified the suspect through footage of the incident and witnesses’ account.

    “Since the commission of this senseless and heinous act of violence, investigators from the Hartford Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Forces in Connecticut and Puerto Rico have tirelessly worked around the clock to bring the suspect to justice,” said Lawrence Bobnick, acting U.S. Marshal for the District of Connecticut.
