An Arizona state Senate candidate was killed in a DUI crash Friday morning, hours after conceding to his Republican opponent.
John McLean, 68, was killed at around 6 a.m. when a drunk driver failed to stop at a sign and struck the Democrat’s Toyota RAV4 at a high rate of speed at an intersection.
The drunk driver was later identified as 27-year-old Michael Martin Creel. He did not sustain serious injuries and is now facing manslaughter and aggravated driving under the influence charges.
In a statement, the Pima County Democratic Party mourned “the tragic death of John McLean.”
“We got to know John on the campaign trail, but as a third generation Arizonan, he has long served Tucson,”
“John was a leader in Pima County even before he stepped up to better our state, and run for Arizona State Senate.”
