A Louisiana mother was arrested after she allegedly claimed her son was kidnapped while he was left behind on the side of a busy road.
Artasia Quantaya Viges called at around 1 a.m. on November 5 to report that people in an “older model truck” kidnapped her child when she stopped to deal with a flat tire.
The boy was found blocks away in the parking lot of a hospital suffering abrasions on his knees.
“The child stated to officers that his mother ‘ran him over’ and left him on the side of the road,” St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators later determined that Viges left her son alongside the roadway after an argument.
“What started as a disagreement between a mother and a child became a bizarre reaction to the child having a tantrum,” the office said.
“As the mother pulled the car over, the child, obviously not properly restrained, bailed out of the car before it came to a stop, resulting in the injuries to the child’s knees.”
Viges was charged with cruelty to juveniles, child desertion, and swearing for the purpose of violating public health or safety.
