An Alaska mother was charged with murder after she allegedly killed her 5-year-old son with a kettlebell, Fairbanks Police said.
Cedar Sarten, 43, called 911 on October 14 to report that someone had killed her son and that he was “definitely dead.”
Officers found the boy on a bed with a knife and a 20-pound kettlebell weights near his bloodied body.
The mother falsely claimed that she had tried to call 911 the night before but failed and rather called the boy’s father telling him: “Please don’t freak out. We don’t have a son no more.”
The woman was suffering self-inflicted wounds to her head, forearms, and neck.
An autopsy determined that the victim died from blunt force trauma and suffered post-mortem cuts and injuries.
In 2022, Sarten was convicted of reckless endangerment after witnesses reported seeing her twisting her son’s head while at a hospital.
