A Kentucky mother has been charged for a DUI crash that claimed the life of her infant, authorities said.
Louisville Metro Police said that 18-year-old Lyillie Pena was drunk early Thursday when she rear-ended a Ford Escape as the SUV slowed at a red light.
Pena’s Dodge Dart caught flames causing her 3-month-old severe injuries.
The baby died about three hours later at Norton Children’s Hospital.
His mother suffered minor injuries and was aggressive, with glossy eyes and a smell of alcohol at the scene.
Pena later admitted to drinking 99-proof alcohol and taking Adderall the night before the crash.
She has been charged with multiple counts including vehicular homicide, aggravated DUI, and criminal mischief.
