The unsolved murders of a mother and her adult daughter earlier this week had startled their quiet neighborhood leaving residents fearing for their safety despite authorities’ assertion that the incident was not random.
Marisol Nunez, 54, and her 33-year-old daughter, Catherine Nunez, were shot to death on the second floor of their Willingboro home early Wednesday.
Police said at least one intruder broke into the victims’ home through a first-floor window.
The incident was initially described as a burglary but investigators said it was not a random crime and “do not believe other residents in the neighborhood are in jeopardy.”
The murders shattered the peace and calm of the neighborhood especially as the case remains unsolved.
“I’m still flabbergasted. I still cannot sleep. I cannot sleep,” a next-door neighbor said.
“I know one thing. When I’m in my room, I’m still startled ‘cause I don’t know what’s going on. What can happen.”
