Detroit news, Michigan news.

The parents of a critically wounded toddler gave detectives conflicting stories that didn’t make “any sense at all,” authorities in Detroit said.

The 3-year-old boy was found with a gunshot wound to the stomach when police responded to his home at around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Detroit Assistant Police Chief Charles Fitzgerald said the victim’s parents said he was with a 15-year-old, a 2-year-old, and a 2-month-old at the time of the shooting.

“The story’s not making any sense at all. Conflicting stories from the mom, conflicting stories from the dad,” the official said.

Detectives found no signs of shell casings or a gun or any other evidence indicating that a shooting unfolded at the home.

“This area here is actually a ShotSpotter area. No indication there was a shot fired over here,” Fitzgerald added.

Neighbors also denied hearing a gunshot; the toddler was listed in critical condition.
