Mom charged after unattended 4-year-old boy finds loaded gun, shoots himself in car

A California mother is facing charges after she allegedly left her child unattended in a car with an unsecured, loaded gun causing a near-fatal accident.

Latisha Walker, 26, went inside a business Friday leaving her 4-year-old son alone in a parked vehicle with a loaded gun.

The boy found the gun and shot himself. Witness Shynice Cordoba recalled how she ran outside a nearby spa after hearing the boy’s screams.

  • “He wanted me to pick him up. But I had to reassure him and tell him, no, you can’t get up,” she said.

    “You have to stay here. And we talked about Paw Patrol and how old he was and stuff. Until they got here.”

    The witness said the child kept repeating “I shot myself, I shot myself.”

    Police said the boy was expected to recover; Walker was arrested and booked on charges including criminal storage of a firearm and endangering the life of a child.
